P(r)ay for Luck

Urethane resin, “Made in China” clothing label, Chinese coins (1CNY), and paint

7 x 23 x 8 in.

Jesus statues were cast from one mold, their fabrication similar to a typical method of factory production.  “Made in China” tags were submerged in each of the resin casts through series of layers. Jesus is the singluar iconic character in Christianity, but for all the minimum-paid Chinese labor who make Jesus statues, they are just like any other plastic figures: they do this job just for the pay, without the meaning of prayer. The paint on these casts can be easily scratched off by coins, similar to scratching lottery tickets. The Chinese yuan coins represent the low wage these workers receive.
