Unbuckled

Aluminum, leather, paint, and photograph

20 x 24 x 3 in.

An oversized Western style “#SOFAB” belt buckle was created from a cast aluminum to wear and perform in. In this particular scene, the individual wearing the belt buckle is receiving a blowjob from a man in a military uniform, symbolizing a reversal of traditional power dynamics. Though aluminum is a durable material, its surface becomes vulnerable once coated with layers of paint. This piece challenges societal expectations by demonstrating that boys are not solely destined for hard labor, and that “fabulousness” transcends gender boundaries. The provocative interaction captured in the accompanying photograph invites viewers to reexamine their preconceived notions of power, masculinity, and dominance.
